For decades, Universcience, through both entities it groups in Paris– The Palace of Discovery (Palais de la Découverte) and the City of Science and Industry (Cité des sciences et de l’Industrie) – has for ambition to make know and like the sciences and the techniques, to open up the different fields of science and to produce and disseminate scientific culture. It shows to what extent the question of education – meaning, in this case, the transmission of scientific information and its transformation into knowledge – has been for ever at the core of its action and of its reflections. It is thus not surprising that the institution has now to tackle exactly the same issues and questions that cross today the world of education, formal or informal.
In our emerging world, education is no longer feeding hungry people with new facts, technics and theories, but helping them to use the knowledge, methods and technology means they already master to empower their mind extend their capacity of finding new solutions to new problems. Museums if they question and reinvent the way they interact with publics can play a crucial role in this new type of education.
