The Importance of Museum-School Partnerships

Schools participate at different levels at the museum. There are schools that visit once annually and there are some that make repeated visits for customised programmes. It is essential for museum educators to cultivate long-term relationships with schools that are keen on conducting in-depth programmes that layers the students’ experience.

Advocacy from participating schools can be a powerful tool as these programmes can be used as a form of marketing to other schools; it can bring about a mindset shift in teachers who might not even have fathomed the idea of conducting a museum-based lesson.

This presentation will highlight two school collaborations that demonstrate how this has been done.
