How do young people get engaged with art? What are their interests? When do they see value in the discourse on art? Two years ago the Fondation Beyeler launched “Art Lab”, a participative art-mediation project, designed for young people between the ages of 15 and 25.
The concept behind the program is simple: young people bring other young people closer to the world of art. Together with like-minded peers, they explore a theme over several weeks and develop a project that helps build interest of other young people towards Arts.
In the end, they implement the project as a concrete art-mediation offering for visitors, at the Fondation Beyeler. The Art Lab participants are guided by members of the museum’s art mediation team. We would like to share with you our experiences with these participative mediation project and discuss the benefits and struggles with “Art Lab”.
