The Kunsthalle Bremen offers a variety of community outreach programmes intending to create emotional links between the public and the museum. One of these, Picasso meets the Streets!, was developed in 2013.
This Project offers cultural education to young men and women in prison: They experience highlights from the museums’s collections and develop own interpretations on canvas. These works are exhibited publicly in the prison as well as in the museum. The project enables prisoners to express themselves by creativity instead of criminal energy. It mediates artistic expression as social validation and reveals the museum as an anchor for the time after the dismissal.
