Erlend often thinks of art museums and festivals, music festivals, theaters and operas as mental fitness centers. An ordinary fitness center comes with promises and commitments attached: hopefully you start at one level and end up at a different level, but no-one ever said it would be easy.
He is convinced that we need to create, expand and develop our mental capacity, our brains, so that we can see the world afresh at all times. We need brains that are innovative, but also brains that are trained differently than today. Erlend believes that we must begin to talk about the need for a mental revolution. And in this mental revolution, the arts and their institutions can play a very special role. Therefore, I think it is vital for institutions to create new kinds of partnerships within their societies and redefine their roles and their sector.
